Simple skincare fundamentals

Saturday, October 22, 2016 / Leave a Comment
  1. Never over cleanse your skin, Our sebum has Vitamin E and when we cleanse our sebum is taken away. So we will miss the magic of Vitamin E. So cleanse only in the nights.
  2. Always use a moisturiser this brings skin to its normal pH and moisturised skin is less prone to any damage, even sun damage.
  3. If you are oily, a light weight serum or a Floral water (Alcohol free toner) is sufficient.

Never miss an update

Tan Removal - Lemon, Cucumber, Rosewater and Aloe Vera on skin

Lemon + Cucumber + Rosewater creates an exfoliating paste, which will be in acidic pH.
It will work the same way as Glycolic acid or Lactic acid in creams. But the only problem is every time the strength and pH of the product you use is not fixed.
This is how exfoliants work,
  1. Exfoliants remove dead skin (not live skin) due to which you will have glowing skin on the surface (surface is what everyone sees!)
  2. Also the rate at which new skin cells grow is fastened, which means that you have younger skin

Exfoliants were used since the times of Cleopatra. ( She used sour milk which is rich in Lactic Acid).
Aloe Vera,
Fresh Aloevera (not the preserved one) is very rich in nutrients to the skin.
So the combinations will work to some extent. But also be sure to use a moisturiser regularly because if you use the above paste on dry skin it may sting due to highly acidic nature.
I recommend using Glycolic acid cream to remove tan and dead skincells. And any nourishing oils or gels that undo any sundamge.
plus,
SUNSCREEN SPF 15–20 and PA++
Nourishing creams/ lotions/gels that help with sundamage are
Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vit A, Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Pomegranate, Sea Buckthorn and the list goes on…
Good Luck,

Dry skin in winter, Simple tips

1. Oiling before bath, we all know that but it is as simple as it is. Common oils that are beneficial are refined coconut oil( Pls don’t use the one pressed at mills as it may contain some contaminants that do real harm than any good. A brand like Parachute is perfectly fine )

2. Next simple Tip is an extension of above but don’t want our readers to miss it – Applying a good Brand Sunflower Oil/ Safflower oil. A refined Variety is fine or an organic Variety is best. The Linoleic acid in sunflower and safflower are very good to help dry skin condition. Also both the oils are loaded with good quality of sunflower oils.
3. Use a gentle cleanser preferably without SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate). A baby soap or bodywash should be good. I like the Himalaya gentle baby bath. If I am not using our own products.
4. A fine cold process handmade soap is also good. Its loaded with with glycerin. And remember all handmade soaps are not good, some are actually more drying than a commercial soap(many of us must be having this bad experience but they may be designed to be more cleansing than a commercial soap ). Pick a cold process soap from a good brand one. Also transparent soaps are not true cold process soaps, they are filled with chemical sometimes harsh and sometimes gentle.
5. Use any moisturizer. I say “Any” is better than “None”. Natural ingredients are good. But don’t fall into trap that “any thing natural is best”. Sometimes the percentage of natural ingredient in the product is so less that it is ineffective. So choose a good brand even if it is commercial.
6. Want to stay all natural??
-oil before bath and use a mild cold process soap and put few drops of Sunflower in ur palms and apply when wet and wipe off.
-Oil before bath and use utban for cleansing skin.
Hope u it helps some of you……….

Why should you Exfoliate your skin?

The first step to clear and Glowing skin is exfoliation.
As we age our skin CELL TURNOVER RATE slows down. Cell turnover is the process by which our skin produces new skin cells which travel from the lowest layer to the top layer and then shed off the skin.
Below is the skin turnover rate according to age,
Babies - every14 days
Teenage every 21-28 days
Forties - every  30-40 days
Fifties above  every 42 - 84 days
The skin that we see is mostly layers of dead skin, which is dull. The dead skin cells should shed well, unfortunately they don't shed really well as we age. so assist the process of shedding dead skin cells we need to exfoliate.

There are two ways to exfoliate - Manual exfoliation like apricot scrubs or Utbans. But in acne prone they may disturb and spread the underlying infection(means causing more acne). Also larger particles with uneven textures tent to stretch and tear the skin which is damaging int the long run.
Chemical exfoliation is a safer way in which the exfoliant gently dissolve the glue that hold dead skin cells to the healthy skin. Once the glue is dissolved, the dead skin cells shed off easily revealing healthy glowing skin.
you can use any exfoliates with AHA or BHA or just honey. By the way milk, yogurt citrus fruits all give results on skin by the way of chemical exfoliation. But Honey is one of the best ingredients.
People who are prone to acne specially need to exfoliate their skin, so that dead skin cells wont clog their pores. And Chemical exfoliation is a better option because dead skin is removed with out disturbing existing acne.
